Economizing Carbon Emissions
Individual action starts with a Swipe!
Curren-C is a climate technology platform that is designed to harness the power of individual action in the fight against a rising climate crisis.
This project was carried out at Parsons School of Design; in collaboration with Wasim Abbas, and Louisa Buck. Curren-C stood among the winners of an international design challenge, Good Interventions 2023.

The urgency of action: The Earth's temperature is rising at an alarming rate – 0.18 °C per decade. If this trend continues unchecked, it will trigger irreversible environmental disasters by 2050, particularly impacting vulnerable ecosystems.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns that limiting global warming to 1.5°C requires a 43% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030. Shockingly, studies show that two-thirds of these emissions stem from household consumption. We believe everyone, especially those in developed nations, has the power to reduce their impact. But making sustainable choices can feel daunting.
That's where Curren-C comes in.
Objectives:
Build awareness among consumers and promote conscious and mindful consumption
Quantify individual climate impact with rich data-driven insights Incentivize climate-positive behavior
Simplify the existing complexity around climate action for the user by unifying the plethora of touchpoints that enable one to make an impact
Make the fight against climate change accessible to the end-user who often feel to small and insignificant in this large battle
Create a network for Climate Action and develop a social currency around sustainability
The existing landscape for individual action is vast, disorganised, expensive and complicated
User Research Findings
Our expansive research revealed some troubling insights about the state of sustainable action and personal carbon emissions in the lives of individuals aged 18 to 40 years of age in big cities around the world.

CurrenC is a platform that unites the diverse touch-points a consumer must interact with, in order to incorporate sustainable consumerism into their lives.
Scan your Bill, Account your Emissions - How emissions data is process using the CurrenC App.
CurrenC's features are designed with the user in mind - simplifying the process of integrating sustainable habits in one's life.
Note: Curren-C does require its users to grant the platform access to their financial data and records for service delivery. To address this, we also envision developing the Curren-C API (application-programming interface) that can be integrated into existing bank apps and other fin-tech platforms (like Intuit’s Mint) – to aid a more ubiquitous presence and reduce potential onboarding friction.
